Blend Modes Part 2 | Photoshop Tutorials 101
Overview
This tutorial gives a description of what the five Darken blend modes do in Photoshop and how they are used. These modes work well with simple photos underneath complex textures, giving a texture to the image.
Darken
The Darken blend mode utilizes the color information in each channel and selects the darker color. Pixels lighter than this selected color are replaced, pixels darker than the selected color stay the same.

Multiply
The Multiply blend mode works by multiplying the color of both layers together. The result is always a color darker than before. Multiplying a layer with black creates black, multiplying with white causes no change to occur with the colors.
Color Burn
The Color Burn mode looks at the color information and darkens the color of the base to match the color of the blended layer all through an increase in contrast. The Color Burn mode creates no change when white is on the blended layer.

Linear Burn
The Linear Burn mode is used much like the Color Burn mode however, instead of changing the color through an increase in contrast this mode relies on a decrease in brightness to achieve a similar result. Again, blending with white causes no change in color information.
Darker Color
The Darken blend mode utilizes the color information in each channel and selects the darker color. Pixels lighter than this selected color are replaced, pixels darker than the selected color stay the same.
