How to Delete a Facebook Post

As a page manager sometimes it becomes necessary to delete a Facebook post. Whether due to a change in details or incorrect information (wrong date/time, typos, etc.) Facebook allows editors the power to delete posts. Do this with caution however as there can be negative PR consequences to just deleting posts without thought.

How to Delete a Post

Deleting a Facebook post is simple to do and only requires four easy steps. This method works on any version of Facebook whether it is desktop or mobile/app based.

Step One: Navigate to the Facebook Page

An admin should navigate to the Facebook page that the post needs to be deleted from as this can be easier than finding the post in a timeline. General users cannot do this, only admins, editors, etc.

Step Two: Find the Post to Delete

Scroll down to the post that needs to be deleted.

Step Three: Select the Ellipsis

On the right hand side of the post there should be an ellipsis that can be selected. This contains a list of options for admins to do with the post which we will cover each in detail separately such as editing the post or turning off comments.

Step Four: Delete the Post

Now that the list is open select Delete Post. A Confirmation window will appear, go ahead and confirm this and that will delete the post from the page’s timeline.

Conclusion

Whatever reason there may be to delete a post, do it with caution. Generally if a post is receiving negative attention removal of said post can cause more negative backlash across other posts but sometimes can be a necessity. In this instance if the post is deleted it can be worthwhile to put out a statement regarding why the post was taken down. If the reason is as simple as an incorrect date or typo (it happens, we all make mistakes) however it is often fine to just replace the post.
